She was introduced to me as Dr. Felicia Paul-Gray through an acquaintance who was setting us up to meet. She had agreed to join me for lunch so that she could provide direction on the new business venture that my husband and I were embarking. (More about the venture later). I immediately recognized her to be intellectually astute and extraordinarily knowledgeable about all things health and medicine. She is the second woman of 4 that we will celebrate for Women In History.
Dr. Felicia Paul-Gray settled easily in her chair and informed me that she was newly married and that her official name was Dr. Felicia Paul-Gray Sadler. I secretly admired the way she included specific life experiences that qualified her current existence and made her the woman and brand she is today. However, she shares that it was the inequities within the Black community that compelled her to seek more training and provide more education to underserved communities. “I was in healthcare for over 30 years and nursing is my background,” explains Gray. "I decided to go for medical training so that I could do more. I saw first-hand with my own father and sister the disparity in health care.” Dr. Gray recalls that she was 16 when her father was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Her father was in his late 40s. "One of the things that shaped me,” admits Dr. Gray, “was that my father was sent home from the hospital without even a needle to check his blood sugars, and then he had an immediate amputation.”
Dr. Gray’s resilience is evident as she endured a house fire which left her in a coma for 5 days while she was in college. She lost 5 days of her memory but ultimately pressed on and graduated, married and became a mother.
Through all of her challenges, including divorce, raising her son as a single mom for a while, and the loss of loved ones in death, she has established her identity as a Master of Science in nursing and a certified family nurse practitioner and certified medical examiner. Her designation as a doctor is, at minimum, consistent with rigorous educational, training and accreditation requirements to ensure consistency among health professionals permitted to use this restricted title while providing health care to patients.
Dr. Gray provides mobile services to her patients and is dedicated to ensuring them the best quality care possible. She has expertise in treating diabetes, depression, dementia and other conditions.
