There are 8760 hours in a year. There are 703.5 hours in a month. And there are 168 hours in a week. However, we often view hours in the framework of a 24-hour day that appears to never give us enough time for self-care. As a young wife and mother of 2, I used to pray for the 25th hour. But now at 58, I’m older and wiser and I realize more than ever that time has to be managed. And I appreciate that with 8760 hours in a year – I deserve to carve out at least 7 hours once a week for me. So every Monday I sleep in and reflect. I don’t think about work, my next project or deadlines for the next day. I simply use that time to quiet and relax my mind and spirit.

Usually by 10:30a.m. I’m on my back patio [wrapped in a comforter because it’s been so chilly lately🥶] sipping my first cup of spiced chai black tea. It’s that period of time that I place zero demands on the outcome of the day. Instead, I allow the day to influence me and how I respond to it.

We should all be doing this. Select just one day a week, even if it’s just 7 hours of a day, to just be still and guided by inner peace.

Even if your list of responsibilities seems to override this idea, make it happen anyway! Get creative and invoke assistance from your mate and/or other family members and friends if you’re still in the raising-a-family phase. You don’t necessarily have to explain why you need the assistance. And I understand that this is a foreign concept that may be rather difficult to accomplish. However, it will help you to ease into the next day as opposed to being overwhelmed and threatened by it. This sort of free time in the meantime gives you permission to self-discover without pressure. Sometimes I play this game where I determine what I would say to myself in a phone call. It helps me to self-connect and hear my own voice more clearly.

I haven’t been doing this very long, but it is so fulfilling and rejuvenating! I’m discovering that I actually enjoy cooking now. That’s right! Me…Mario is actually developing a love for preparing beautifully plated dinners in particular. I’m scarda me!

That’s my Monday every week now. What day will you award to yourself? When calculated, 7 hours once a week over a 1-year period is only 364 hours! You certainly deserve at least 364 hours out of a total 8760 hours in a year! Ladies…please bless yourself with YOU!
